What is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais Method® is a lifelong learning method originally devised by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais, and continuing to be developed by practitioners today. The method is founded on bio-mechanics, neuroplasticity, early childhood development, physics, and social sciences.
Sessions are called classes and lessons and participants are called students in the Feldenkrais Method® to emphasise the learning aspect of the method. Key concepts of the method are:
•embodied learning (learning through experience, not through imitation or theory)
•awareness (developing and improving attention)
•a holistic (whole self) approach.
Check our group classes and individual lessons pages for a more detailed description of what happens in a Feldenkrais session.
What is a Feldenkrais Practitioner?
A Feldenkrais practitioner will help you discover your movement habits which may be contributing to pain, balance problems, limiting flexibility, or more general lack of wellbeing. Feldenkrais practitioners can assist you to learn new ways of moving to reduce or overcome these problems. All Feldenkrais practitioners must complete a four year Guild accredited training program. Check the Australian Feldenkrais Guild’s website for more details.
